9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Nashville have officially had their first (unofficial) crossover.

The Thursday, October 23, episode of 9-1-1 picks right up with Athena (Angela Bassett) and Hen (Aisha Hinds) panicking as their space shuttle threatens to go up in flames. Although Athena ultimately finds a way to save the group by opening the spacecraft’s top hatch, they quickly realize that there is now only a certain amount of oxygen left for them before they run out.
While Hen’s wife Karen (Tracie Thoms) and 9-1-1 dispatcher Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) were previously guiding them to safety from earth, the movement of the craft means Hen and Athena can no longer alert them to their emergency. The spacecraft also won’t be back in range of Los Angeles airwaves until after their air runs out. When Karen and Maddie also take note of the situation from the ground, they come up with a plan to reach out to a familiar friend.

“They won’t be over L.A. for 72 minutes, but they’re going to be over somewhere, right?” Maddie explains to Karen. The duo then call up 9-1-1 Nashville’s dispatcher Cammie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) to ask for her help.
“Let me get this straight — you want me to send one of our people up to the roof with a satellite phone?” Cammie asks, to which Maddie replies, “Yes and it would be great if you could do it in the next 12 minutes.”
“You’re aware we’re under an extreme weather watch over here,” Cammie responds, referencing Nashville’s season 1 ongoing opening emergency. “It’s raining fire over here,” Maddie retorts, ultimately getting Cammie to jump into action.
The connection with Nashville to the spacecraft is successful. “Nashville?!” Hen responds when Cammie reveals who she is. “Am I speaking with the folks on the spaceship? Hold please, patching you through to Los Angeles,” Cammie says before Hen and Karen are reconnected.
Karen and Maddie then jump into action to save the group from space, deciding to send them to the International Space Station. While they manage to get there safely, they find an injured astronaut on board, seconds before the station is sent into flux from a debris field, leaving them back in harm’s way.
The four-part opening emergency began during 9-1-1’s season 9 premiere on October 9, when billionaire tech bro Tripp Houser (Mark Consuelos) was saved by Hen after being swallowed by a whale. Hen was then offered a chance to go to space and bring someone along as a reward, but their celebration trip quickly took a turn for the worse.

Nashville, meanwhile, had its series premiere earlier this month, introducing a weather emergency — complete with tornadoes, “firenadoes” and flooding — that left the city in peril. Jessica Capshaw, LeAnna Rhimes, Chris O’Donnell and more star alongside Williams-Paisley.
For the spinoff’s third episode, titled “Forces of Nature,” Captain Hart’s (O’Donnell) son Ryan (Michael Provost) will step up to lead Station 113 after his dad injuries from being struck by lightning put him in the hospital. Together, the group responds to a dangerous call of a child trapped in a trailer hanging off a historic Nashville bridge. Hart’s wife, Blythe (Capshaw), will also make another visit to Dixie (Rhimes), the mother of Hart’s eldest son, Blue (Hunter McVey), who also happens to be the newest firefighter at the 113.
