Morgan and Karadec are hitting a major milestone as partners on High Potential — just in time for spooky season.
In Us Weekly‘s exclusive first look at the Tuesday, October 21, episode of the hit ABC series, Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) arrives at a crime scene, telling Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), “This is perfect! It’s our first Halloween together!”
Morgan then opens her bag to show Karadec a bunch of candy.
“Hop on in here, buddy,” she offers, to which he replies, “I am not eating candy at a crime scene.”

Karadec’s response wasn’t a surprise to Morgan. “Right. Why have fun?” she adds. “I would have thought Halloween is your favorite holiday. It’s like the one day of the year you can let your hair down, throw a costume on and be somebody other than you for one night.”
The scene then pivoted to a flashback, which shows Karadec as a child going trick-or-treating in a cop uniform. Morgan acknowledges that she “was wrong” for assuming Karadec would enjoy Halloween.
Tuesday marks High Potential’s first Halloween episode. The police procedural, which premiered in September 2024, follows a high-potential intellectual — Morgan — who teams up with the LAPD to help solve murders. She gets paired up with Karadec, who is initially skeptical about Morgan’s involvement with the Major Crimes unit but ultimately starts to rely on her.
As the show continued to grow more popular, it didn’t take long for fans to pick up on the chemistry between Morgan and Karadec.
“I will definitely say that I actually don’t have the actual ultimate answer to where they’re going to go. In terms of the will-they-won’t-they between Karadec and Morgan, that is up to our writers’ room,” Sunjata, 53, exclusively told Us in November 2024. “I think that they’re going to play the long game with that particular story line.”
Sunjata made it clear that the pair’s fate was up to the writers. “I would say that there’s definitely some electricity between the two of them. There’s a reluctant mutual attraction that’s happening,” he added. “But I don’t think we should expect to see anything crazy about that happening anytime soon.”
Executive producer and showrunner Todd Harthan later gave Us a promising update about his plans for the fan-favorite characters.

“You never know. I don’t let my guard down about those things either. I don’t get overly confident until your audience dictates a lot of the things you do. What do they have a big appetite for?” Harthan shared with Us. “I might be infamous for slow planning things, but I love a slow burn. Like, selfishly I just love it.”
Harthan said the show will continue to invest in Morgan and Karadec. “We’re going to write that for a while. Even if you at some point fall in love with somebody, maybe you also are more in love with the partnership and the friendship. And maybe you are scared enough of the risk of crossing certain lines,” he hinted. “To me, it’s so fun to play in that space before you cross certain lines. There’s a lot of life in this show and I want to make sure we do it at a pace that doesn’t leave a good story on the table.”
Before season 2, Sunjata said he “wasn’t surprised” by the support for the fictional couple.
“But Morgan meets a lot of people as she moves around,” he noted in September. “She’s got options. Karadec probably has a few options too. We’ll see what happens.”
High Potential airs on ABC Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
