Amazon Prime Video is rarely lacking in good movies to watch. But in October, Prime Video’s lineup of films is spectacular.

Oscar-winning films stand side-by-side with critically acclaimed flicks that go back through decades of cinema.

There were so many good choices that the Watch With Us team had trouble narrowing it down to the five best Prime Video movies to watch in October, as ranked by Rotten Tomatoes.

Three of the films even scored over 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and arguably belong among the best ever made.

24 Must-Watch Movies on Prime Video Right Now (October 2025)

5. ‘Candyman’ (1992)

Rotten Tomatoes rank: 79 percent

The late horror icon Tony Todd had his signature role in Candyman, which he reprised in two sequels. Virginia Madsen leads this film as Helen Lyle, a journalist who investigates the legend of Candyman when a series of copycat murders occur in Chicago’s housing projects.

Helen does too good a job of exposing the real killer and discrediting Candyman. In response, Candyman feels the need to make people fear him again, and he’ll use Helen to spread his new reign of terror. The film actually lets the audience feel some sympathy for Candyman through his tragic origin, but make no mistake, he’s a monster to his core.

4. ‘Erin Brockovich’ (2000)

Rotten Tomatoes rank: 85 percent

Julia Roberts showed an abundance of charisma when playing real-life activist Erin Brockovich in the film that shares her name. Small wonder then that Roberts won an Oscar for Best Actress for her work in the movie. In the early ’90s, Brockovich convinces her lawyer, Edward L. Masry (Albert Finney), to hire her for an office position. But she soon proves to be more valuable in the field when she uncovers a massive cover-up by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Through sheer force of will and persistence, Brockovich rallies the residents of Hinkley, California, to file a class action lawsuit over PG&E’s contamination of the local groundwater. Masry is a skilled litigator, but this is the biggest case of his life, and it’s on Brockovich to keep the plaintiffs unified as they seek justice for the town.

3. ‘Frankenstein’ (1931)

Rotten Tomatoes rank: 94 percent

There have been countless adaptations of Mary Shelley‘s Frankenstein, including director Guillermo del Toro‘s new version coming to theaters this month. But the 1931 movie by director James Whale is still the standard by which all of the others are judged. Boris Karloff‘s turn as the Monster has also shaped its appearance in pop culture for almost a century.

Colin Clive stars as Henry Frankenstein, the scientist who dared to play god by creating a new life from a patchwork of corpses. Frankenstein’s Monster lives, but he didn’t count on it having needs and desires of its own. Once the Monster gets loose, it’s far beyond Frankenstein’s ability to control. The Monster isn’t evil, but he still leaves death in his wake.

2. ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ (1981)

Rotten Tomatoes rank: 94 percent

In the early ’80s, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were considered the dream team of genre filmmakers. Their first movie together, Raiders of the Lost Ark, redefined the action and adventure genre for a generation while making Harrison Ford into an even bigger icon after Star Wars.

Before the outbreak of World War II, the American government contacts archeologist Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones Jr. (Ford) about a Nazi plot to locate the fabled Ark of the Covenant. Hitler‘s occult followers believe the Ark could deliver the world to Germany, and that leads Indy on a globe-trotting quest to find it first. However, he’ll need the help of his former lover, Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), and she’s not inclined to do it for free.

1. ‘Argo’ (2012)

Rotten Tomatoes rank: 96 percent

The real-life con at the heart of Argo is so good that it’s almost a shame it could never work again. Ben Affleck directed this Best Picture winner, which details an incredible CIA plan to smuggle a handful of Americans out of Iran during the 1979 revolution that led to most of the U.S. staff being held hostage for months.

6 Must-Watch Drama Movies on Prime Video (October 2025): ‘Argo’ and More

CIA Officer Tony Mendez (Affleck)  convinces his boss, Deputy Director Jack O’Donnell (Bryan Cranston), to let him stage a rescue by convincing the Iranian rebels that a Canadian science fiction film is going to be shot in their country. The fake movie is made to seem as real as possible. But in order to complete the mission, Mendez has to go into Iran himself and risk being discovered.
