The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to two crashes Friday night that it says were linked to criminal activity.
Deputies were first dispatched to Greenbush for a reported domestic disturbance.
Before they arrived, one of the individuals involved left the property, prompting a “be on the lookout” alert to area law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office.
A short time later, the Old Town Police Department found the vehicle connected to the call and tried to stop it, but the driver failed to stop and eventually crashed into a residence.
When the sheriff’s office learned of the crash, a supervisor headed to the Old Town scene to assist.
While en route with lights and sirens on, the supervisor saw a vehicle ahead that appeared to accelerate instead of pulling over. The supervisor lost sight of the vehicle but came upon it a short while later, after it had crashed.
The driver later told investigators he believed the supervisor was attempting to stop him and fled, according to the sheriff’s office.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in both crashes. No further details were released.
