Lily Allen appears to address the end of her and David Harbour’s marriage in a new interview.
Allen, 40, detailed the past few years of her life during an interview with British Vogue, published on Friday, October 17. The singer noted that she went to “some very, very bleak places” emotionally — but did not acknowledge the divorce head-on.
She did, however, offer an update on her mental health struggles during the course of her breakup with Harbour, 50, and revealed that she had “feelings of despair.” Allen also said she nearly relapsed after five years of sobriety.
“The last time that I felt anything like that, drugs and alcohol were my way out, so it was excruciating to sit with those [feelings] and not use them,” Allen said, explaining that she sought treatment after things got so bad that she felt like she “wanted to die.”
“I’ve had real problems with my food over the past few years,” Allen added. “It got really, really, really bad.”

Now, Allen is in the “thick of recovery” but spending “some time away” in treatment definitely helped.
“I’ve been into those places before against my will and I feel like that’s progress in itself,” she said. “That’s strength. I knew that the things I was feeling were too extreme to be able to manage.”
Allen and Stranger Things star Harbour took their relationship public in September 2019. Us Weekly confirmed that they were married in 2020 after obtaining a marriage license in Las Vegas. (Allen is the mother to daughters Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, from her past marriage to Sam Cooper.)
The Daily Mail reported in December 2024 that Allen was on the Raya dating app, raising questions about the status of her and Harbour’s relationship. By early February, it was reported that Allen and Harbour had separated after four years of marriage.
Harbour attended the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special that same month without his wedding ring. The actor was also spotted out with model Ellie Beers Fallon amid split rumors.
Allen alluded to difficult times in her life during an episode of her “Miss Me?” podcast, revealing that she had gone into a mental health treatment program.
“I just feel very grateful to have been given the time and the space that I needed,” she said during the February episode. “I went into a sort of treatment center for a few weeks, which was great. I did a lot of group therapy and some individual therapy and I needed some time and space away from everything.”

Allen did not address breakup rumors at the time.
“It’s a lifelong journey of healing,” she continued. “It’s not a quick fix, but I’ve started meditating. I meditate two or three times a day [and] that’s really helping me.”
Harbour, meanwhile, played coy when asked about the breakup two months later.
“I’m protective of the people and the reality of my life. There’s no use in that form of engaging [with rumors] because it’s all based on hysterical hyperbole,” he told GQ Hype in April, noting that he did not want to encourage a “salacious s***show of humiliation.”
Allen did mention to British Vogue that her new album references her split from Harbour.
“There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel,” she said. “It is inspired by what went on in the relationship.”
