John Summit is eating crow.

After the DJ, 31, announced he was releasing a remix of Britney Spears‘ song “I Wanna Go,” fans of the Princess of Pop resurfaced a 2022 tweet in which he wrote, “britney is the last person i’d want at my party lmao.”

In response to the backlash, Summit immediately did some damage control, taking to X on Thursday, October 16, to backtrack his previous comments.

“britney is an icon and deserves nothing but love,” he began. “it’s an absolute honor to be releasing a remix of one of her songs.”

Britney Spears’ Ups and Downs Over the Years

The rising EDM star went on to acknowledge that Spears’ fans were “digging up old tweets of mine saying i wouldn’t invite her to a party” before adding, “well now i’m officially saying the party is open and actually would be insane if she ever came on stage one day. britney if ur reading this let’s make that s*** happen 🤟.”

Summit first teased his remix of “I Wanna Go,” a single from Spears’ 2011 album, Femme Fatale, by playing it at various music festivals earlier this year.

After getting clearance from the “Toxic” singer, 43, herself, the hitmaker behind dance songs including “Where You Are” and “Shiver” confirmed on Wednesday, October 15, that he would be officially dropping his remake on streaming services.

“BRITNEY I WANNA GO REMIX OUT FRIDAY,” he captioned an X video of a crowd going wild as he spun the track live.

Unexpected Celebrity Feuds We Never Saw Coming

Spears is not the only pop star to whom Summit has recently given his flowers. During a Rolling Stone interview published Tuesday, October 14, he raved about one of his favorite artists, Lady Gaga.

“I haven’t seen Lady Gaga on tour yet, so this is very annoying to me,” he said of having to miss the “Abracadabra” singer’s Mayhem Ball while on the road himself. “I saw the whole Coachella performance though. She’s been the top of the game for years and years and years. So incredible live. … It’s like watching a whole movie. And then she sang fully live, of course, too, which is crazy.”

The Experts Only Records founder shared that he compares Gaga, 39, to NBA legend LeBron James because the “longevity” of her career is “so wild.”

“She’s even been an A-list actor doing all these huge movies like A Star Is Born, which is one of my favorite movies as well,” he continued. “To be able to cross all types of forms of media and still be the top of everything is insane to me.”

Summit also expressed his love for Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish and Charli XCX.

“I feel like last summer especially, pop music crushed [it], and it was very inspiring because it was very forward-thinking. It wasn’t formulaic. It wasn’t generic,” he explained to the magazine. “I started to hate pop music in the 2010s because everything sounded the same, and it sounded like it was all written by the same person.”
