
Five University of Maine women’s basketball players have been chosen among America East’s top 25 players over the past 25 years.
Forward Heather Ernest and guards Kim Corbitt, Blanca Millan, Anne Simon and Sigi Koizar were selected to the team. UMaine was one of three programs with five along with Albany and Vermont.
Hartford had four players on the list with Boston University and Binghamton each having two and Stony Brook and New Hampshire having one apiece.
Hartford, BU and Stony Brook are no longer in the America East conference.
To qualify for the list, players had to play at least two seasons in America East from 2000-01 to 2024-25 and earn all-league honors at least twice. Current players weren’t eligible.
Simon and Millan are the only two players in league history to be named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season on two occasions.
Sandweiler, Luxembourg native Simon is the school’s fifth leading all-time scorer with 1,982 points and averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game during her 130-game career. Her 1,982 points are the 12th most in league history.
Her 280 steals are fifth-most in school history and her 721 rebounds are 10th most.
The former America East Rookie of the Year was a four-time All-America East selection including a three-time first-team and all-defensive team selection. She was also chosen the league’s Rookie of the Year and was on the all-rookie team.
Simon was the league tournament’s most outstanding player in 2023-24.
Millan, a native of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, is sixth on the all-time scoring list at UMaine and 13th in America East with 1,974 points. She concluded her UMaine career averaging 15.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.8 steals over 126 games.
When she graduated, she was second in school history with 324 steals and third in 3-pointers with 216.
Like Simon, she was an All-America East first team and all-defensive team selection three times and was an all-rookie team pick.
Millan was a two-time league tournament most outstanding player.

Corbitt is a two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year who is fourth on the school’s career assists list with 436.
She averaged 7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 118 career games.
She was a two-time All-America East selection.
Farmington native Ernest is seventh on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,804 points in 115 games and averaged 15.7 points, 9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals. She was a two-time America East Player of the Year and a three-time first team selection.
She is third in school history with 1,040 rebounds.
Ernest was a tournament most outstanding player in 2003-04.
Koizar, a native of Vienna, Austria who was an exchange student at Stearns High School in Millinocket, is the UMaine program’s ninth-leading scorer with 1,671 points.
Over her 130-game career, she averaged 12.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game while also hitting 186 3-pointers, which is sixth most all-time. Her 179 steals is 10th.
She was a three-time All-America East first team selection and her 368 career assists are eighth most in program history.
She holds the school’s single-season record for threes with 85.
