BREMEN — As winter approaches, the Bremen Democratic and Republican Committees are inviting community members to take part in the “Bundle Up Swap: Winter Clothing, Footwear & Gear Exchange for Kids & Adults”, an event designed to help neighbors prepare for the colder months ahead.
Donations of clean, gently used or new winter items will be collected Oct. 25-31 in a bin outside the Live from Love Center, 145 Waldoboro Road. Items accepted include coats, snow pants, boots, hats, gloves and other cold-weather essentials for children and adults.
The community is then invited to return to the same location on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the swap event. Participants are welcome to browse and take what they need, whether or not they have donated items in advance.
“Kids grow fast, winter gear is expensive, and many of us have perfectly good coats, boots, hats or snow pants just sitting in a closet,” said the event organizers. “This is a simple way to help each other stay warm while keeping usable clothing out of the landfill.”
Any items remaining after the swap will be donated to the Waldoboro Clothing Closet or other local organizations. Organizers emphasize that the event is focused only on winter wear and cannot accept toys, household goods or spring and summer clothing.
“We are happy to put aside our political differences to unite for a great event,” said Kerrith Stapp, chair of the Bremen Republican Committee.
“This is a project we can all get behind, no matter our politics,” said Deb Elliott, chair of the Bremen Democratic Committee.
From a joint statement. “By working together, we hope to make it easier for families, seniors and individuals of all ages to get what they need and to strengthen our sense of community.”
Volunteers are needed to help during the event. Community members interested in lending a hand or those with questions may email [email protected] or call Stapp at 207-380-9990.
The Bundle Up Swap is free and open to the public.
