Cher won an Oscar for her performance in this romantic comedy about Loretta Castorini, an Italian-American woman who accepts a practical marriage proposal from Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello), despite not being in love with him — only to fall for his estranged, hot-tempered, one-handed brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage).
An ‘80s fairy tale about love, family and magic, Moonstruck is charming, sweet and quirky. Olympia Dukakis also shines as Loretta’s wise and weary mother, Rose. With its witty dialogue and irresistible chemistry, Moonstruck captures the chaotic beauty of falling in love when you least expect it, and it asks the big question — is it better to avoid love if it means you avoid pain?
