My reason for writing is to get some information out to the public as to what is taking place on our beautiful lake and other surrounding lakes. I have summered here for more than 70 years, being fortunate to have a place on the lake to enjoy.
This year, however, the lake volume has been reduced by so much that there are rock formations above the water that have never, in my lifetime, been seen before. Launching a boat has become nearly impossible because a car or truck cannot get into the lake far enough to get a boat out.
The low water levels reduce fishing, boating and thus the economy of the guides. Low water levels also allow milfoil to spread, choking the oxygen from the water and affecting the fish.
Yet, permits have been issued that allow one company to control the dam that takes the water from this lake and others to benefit their company and no one else. To my knowledge, no one issuing these permits has discussed with those it affects what the ramifications of such control does to our area.
We need some help going forward to bring our lakes back to reasonable levels and to preserve the natural beauty of our area.
