Fall foliage is peaking in Maine, with nearly uniform color development throughout the central and southern regions of the state.
Leaves have mostly turned past their most vibrant in the northernmost areas of Maine, although some color is still visible.
“Maine is approaching peak foliage conditions heading into the holiday weekend. Vibrant fall colors are unfolding across the state, especially in the central, coastal, and southern regions, where leaves remain plentiful and intact,” fall foliage spokesperson Gale Ross said Wednesday.

“It’s an ideal time for leaf-peeping enthusiasts to plan outdoor adventures and enjoy the many fall events happening statewide over the next couple of weeks before foliage passes its peak.”
Although Maine saw some rainfall on Wednesday, it was not strong enough to knock down a significant number of leaves, so viewing conditions should still be good over the Indigenous Peoples Day weekend.
Foliage throughout Down East Maine is mostly showing peak colors, while the midcoast region is just starting to see peak foliage emerge. Depending on whether temperatures hold steady, leaf-peeping opportunities will peak throughout the midcoast over the next week.
