A 7-year-old girl was rescued from a camper fire in Oxford on Tuesday evening.
The fire broke out about 5 p.m. in the camper on Gore Road, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters rescued the girl from the flames and quickly extinguished the blaze, Moss said Wednesday morning.
The girl was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway before being flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland. She is expected to survive, Moss said.
Her 3-year-old sister escaped from the fire on her own before firefighters arrived.
Investigators believe the fire was started accidentally by the 3-year-old who was playing with a lighter, according to Moss.
The fire remains under investigation.
