Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl features one of her raciest songs to date with a track titled “Wood.”
“It’s a love story,” Swift, 35, said in an Amazon Music explanation video shared on Friday, October 3. “[It’s] about using, as a plot device, popular superstitions [and] good luck charms, bad luck charms and all these different ways we have decided things are good luck or bad luck — like knocking on wood and seeing a black cat. That is the way I’ve decided to explore this very, very sentimental love song.”
Swift, of course, is currently engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce, who presumably inspired multiple tracks on The Life of a Showgirl. “Wood,” in particular, uses a handful of double entendres to connect the superstitions to the 35-year-old tight end himself and their sex life.
“Forgive me, it sounds cocky / He ah-matized me and opened my еyes,” Swift sings in the post-chorus. “Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see / His love was thе key that opened my thighs.”

She continues, “Girls, I don’t need to catch the bouquet / To know a hard rock is on the way.”
Swift wrote The Life of a Showgirl in 2024 amid her romance with Kelce, who proposed in August after two years together.
“And baby, I’ll admit I’ve been a little superstitious / The curse on me was broken by your magic wand,” she later croons on the song, hinting about Kelce being her first relationship after a string of failed romances with her exes. “Seems to be that you and me, we make our own luck / New Heights of manhood / I ain’t gotta knock on wood.”
“New Heights” is also the name of Travis and his brother Jason Kelce’s joint podcast, which is the place where the Kansas City Chiefs star first expressed interest in Swift back in July 2023. Two years later, Swift made her podcast debut on the show to announce The Life of a Showgirl.
In addition to the presumed podcast reference, Swift appeared to use “Redwood tree” as another nod to Travis. Nearly two weeks after Travis proposed this summer, the Grammy winner shared the news via Instagram.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” Swift wrote on August 26, tagging Travis’ account on — you guessed it — a tree.
Travis proposed to Swift shortly after they filmed her episode of “New Heights,” transforming his backyard into a peony-filled wonderland.
“He really crushed it in surprising me,” Swift said in a teaser of her Friday appearance on The Graham Norton Show. “While we were talking on his podcast, he had a complete garden built out the back of his house to propose in. He went all out — 10 out of 10.”
During her sit-down, Swift hinted that she hasn’t started planning their wedding just yet.
“I want to do the album stuff first, and the wedding is what happens after in terms of planning,” she added. “I think it will be fun to plan.”
