A boy was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a motor vehicle in East Millinocket on Thursday afternoon.
The collision was reported shortly before 5 p.m. on Central Street, near Congress Street, according to the East Millinocket Police Department.
Emergency workers from the Millinocket Fire Department rendered emergency medical aid to the victim, who police described only as a “male juvenile.”
The boy was taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital and later transferred by Lifeflight of Maine to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with “serious injuries,” according to police.
Based on a preliminary investigation and witness statements, police said the boy crossed Central Street outside of a designated crosswalk when the collision happened.
Police said neither speed nor alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, according to police, who have not released the names of any of the parties involved or said what type of vehicle was involved.
