Addison Cyr, who was a Bangor Daily News All-Maine Schoolgirl second team selection last season at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln, will continue her career at Husson University in Bangor next fall.
The 6-foot-1 Cyr is one of the state’s premier post players and she reached the 1,000-point plateau as a junior last season.
Cyr averaged 21.8 points, 13.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocked shots in leading the Lynx to a berth in the Class C North championship game against undefeated Penobscot Valley of Howland.
Cyr turned in a terrific performance in the 42-37 loss to the eventual state champion Howlers, notching 14 points, a game-high 18 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocked shots.
She averaged 21 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots to earn her second consecutive berth on the BDN Class C North All-Tournament team.
In addition to her offensive protection, she was also an excellent defender and rim protector.
She will add to a list of talented post players from eastern Maine who have played for Husson including recent standouts Megan Peach from Dexter High School and Hampden Academy’s Bailey Donovan.
Husson basketball coach Kissy Walker called Cyr a “terrific addition” to the Eagles program.
“I have known Addi for a long time as she attended our Eagles summer camp as a youngster and her mom played for me,” Walker said. “She is one of the top post players in the state.”
Mattanawcook Academy coach Pat House said Cyr is an “incredible young woman whose dominance on the court matches the quality of person and teammate she has been in our Lady Lynx program.”
“She is a strong, versatile post player who knows how to score and rebound,” Walker added. “She has great hands, she plays physical and she can get up and down the floor.”
Walker said Cyr has also extended her shooting range.
“She is very humble and all about the team,” Walker added.
House is confident that Cyr’s “commitment to developing her skills and her competitive drive” will lead to success at the college level a year from now.
