A 13-year-old boy crashed an electric scooter into a pickup truck in Bath on Tuesday morning.
The boy was riding the electric scooter to school about 7:25 a.m. when he crossed Congress Avenue from Lincoln Street, according to Police Chief Andrew Booth.
A truck was already in the intersection, turning onto Congress Avenue from North Street, and the boy hit the left side of the truck, Booth said Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses told officers that the boy didn’t stop at the intersection before crossing, according to Booth.
The eighth-grader, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital as a precaution despite not apparently suffering any serious injuries.
Booth said the crash underscores the importance for children of obeying the rules of the road, whether they are riding an electric scooter or a bicycle.
“Parents need to ensure their children understand these rules. We are relieved that this crash resulted in no significant injury,” he said.
