Kimberly Van Der Beek made sure her husband, James Van Der Beek, felt the love at the Dawson’s Creek reunion despite his absence.
“I just got off [the phone] with James, digesting the whole night tonight,” Kimberly said via her Instagram Story on Monday, September 22. “Michelle Williams was the brainchild of this night. It was such a gift and [Michelle’s husband and director] Thomas Kail came in and made so many of the kids’ dreams come true on this trip. Those two are just exquisite, very angel, humans.”
She continued, “I got to know Jason Moore, the director of this, he’s just an exquisite human. [Dawson’s creator] Kevin Williamson, I mean c’mon, this all spurred from his vision and words. The entire cast has been beyond words. Words will never do justice for their support.”
One day before the reunion, which raised money for F Cancer amid his stage III colorectal cancer battle, James said that he would not be in attendance when “two stomach viruses conspired to knock [him] out of commission and keep [him] grounded at the worst possible moment.”

“Despite every effort… I won’t get to be there. I won’t get to stand on that stage and thank every soul in the theater for showing up for me, and against cancer, when I needed it most,” he wrote via Instagram on Sunday, September 21.
Kimberly and the couple’s six children, however, still attended the event — which included OG stars Williams, Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes as well as other cast members reading the pilot. To close off the night, the Van Der Beek family made an appearance on stage while singing the beloved show’s theme song, Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait.”

“A few fun notes about the cast, which is again so special,” Kimberly continued via her Instagram Story. “Mary-Margaret Humes sends cookies on James’ birthday every year and just knows my kids and sends the sweetest messages all the time. James has a special smile on his face whenever she texts.”
Kimberly gushed that Williams put flowers in every room where the family was staying and even changed the pillowcases and sheets so they could “be more cozy.”
“This night was so special to the whole family,” Kimberly shared. “More importantly, just feeling my husband fill the entire theater and the love for him. Will be unwinding this one for a while. But thank you for the love and support and for the prayers. Right here, front and center is my husband, on my heart. It was a beautiful night and I miss my husband. I can’t wait to go see him tomorrow.”
