Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed Travis Kelce’s dissatisfied start to the 2025 season, which has seen the superstar tight end lash out multiple times.
Reid, 67, spoke to the media on Monday, September 22, just hours after Kelce, 35, was seen getting in Reid’s face on the sidelines during the Chiefs’ game against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
“The question came up yesterday about Travis and the intensity and all that,” Reid said. “‘Is he frustrated or not frustrated?’ Well, he’s seen how the offense works. So when things aren’t going the right way, he’s very aware of that. He’s a pretty smart guy and he’s been doing it longer than anybody else on this team has been doing it. He wants to make sure that he gets that point across to the guys, and so he does that.”
Reid insisted, “I’m OK with that part.”

The head coach added that Kelce understands the potential for the Chiefs offense, which has sputtered during a 1-2 start.
“He knows also, like the coaches know, where we can go with this, too, and the growth we can have here,” Reid said. “We need to take care of business in that area.”
The Chiefs defeated the Giants 22-9 on Sunday for their first win of the season.
During the second quarter, an animated Kelce was caught by NBC cameras bumping chests with Reid and voicing his noticeable discontent.
“I love Travis’ passion, man,” Reid told reporters after the game. “We didn’t have enough of it in the second quarter. It wasn’t where we needed it to be, so, within reason, he knows when to back off the pedal and knows when to push it, too.”
Reid added, “That’s the part I love about him. The guy is all-in. Sometimes, I have to be the policeman. He’s an emotional guy.”
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, also responded to the viral dust-up between Kelce and Reid.
“He’s a guy that loves it,” Mahomes said of Kelce. “That’s what’s made him so great. I know they love each other. That’s what you want out of the greats.”

Kelce’s tense moment with Reid was the second consecutive week the superstar tight end was seen venting his rage on the field.
During the Chiefs’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 14, Kelce was seen yelling, “I’m sick of this s***!,” to his teammates and caught throwing his helmet to the ground in disgust.
Through the first three games of the season, Kelce has 10 receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown.
The Chiefs return to action when they host the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, September 28.
