Former Kansas City Chiefs public address announcer Dale Carter originally hoped his surprising resignation from the team would go much differently.

Last week, Carter announced he was quitting his job as PA announcer at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium after 16 years.

“Seems I caused quite the stir with my news about resigning from the PA role with the Chiefs,” Carter wrote via Facebook on Friday, September 12. “I tried to exit gracefully without getting into the details.”

Carter first announced the news Thursday, September 11, on his radio program, The Dale Carter Morning Show, on Country 94.1 KFKF in Kansas City.

Who Is Dale Carter? Meet the Former Kansas City Chiefs PA Announcer

During his radio show, Carter made a vague mention of a “red line” that the Chiefs organization had crossed, which led to his departure.

“Seems like everyone wants to know what my ‘red line’ was,” Carter said on Facebook.

In response to the interest, Carter went into detail about what exactly went down in a separate social media post.

“Last season, as we were heading into the playoffs, the people I work for (65 TPT Productions) told me they were hearing from ‘a high level’ that someone had heard another PA guy at another stadium really amp it up on 3rd down and they wanted me to experiment with different calls,” Carter wrote via Facebook on Friday. “Some of you caught on to that and mentioned that you noticed. I didn’t agree with what they wanted me to do but I’ve always been a team player and tried to do whatever they wanted me to try. Until this week.”

Carter received a call on September 9 telling him that “they wanted the other PA guy (the one who does pre-game activities and reads the commercials in game) to start doing the 3rd down call to shake things up.”

“That was my red line,” Carter wrote. “I wish them the best of luck.”

Carter explained he “never missed a game” during his 16-year tenure with the Chiefs.

“I worked every major Fall/Winter holiday,” he wrote on Facebook. “I feel like I gave everything I had. It’s just time to close that chapter. Hopefully this answers all of the questions and we can all have a great weekend!”

The Chiefs began a new era at Arrowhead on Sunday, September 14, with new PA announcer Nate Rohr stepping into Carter’s duties behind the microphone for the team’s home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Us Weekly has reached out to the Kansas City Chiefs for comment about Carter’s resignation.
