Dakota Fanning has ventured into the world of dating apps — at least, she’s giving one invite-only platform a try.
Dakota, 31, dished on joining Raya, the exclusive app known for being used by celebrities, during a joint interview with sister Elle Fanning for Vanity Fair’s cover story published on Tuesday, September 16.
“She has never done this. Ever,” Elle, 27, told the outlet when asked if either she or her sister had ever signed up for Raya. “And then the other day —”
Dakota interjected, “I did it for fun. My girlfriend made it for me. … I was like, if I don’t, then I’m going to think —”

“Maybe my husband is there,” Elle said, finishing Dakota’s thought.
“I can confirm that he is not,” Dakota added.
Dakota also revealed that she hasn’t “seen a ton of familiar faces yet” and shared the song she chose for her profile: “Salt Shaker” by the Ying Yang Twins.
“I’m canceling this thing,” she concluded with a sigh.
Dakota has only been in a handful of public relationships, including a romance with U.K. model Jamie Strachan in 2013. They dated for about three years, with the Uptown Girls actress confirming the split in 2016.

Following her split from Strachan, 44, Dakota was spotted with real estate broker Logan Markley, whom she reportedly attended high school with. However, the pair never confirmed their relationship, and she was seemingly single again in 2017.
In October 2017, Dakota was spotted with a man named Henry Frye at Madison Square Garden. She later posted a picture with Frye on Valentine’s Day 2018, and the pair were spotted walking hand-in-hand in New York City that August. Dakota never spoke publicly about the nature of their relationship.
Dakota has opened up about her love life in the past, revealing to Glamour in 2013 that she doesn’t “really date.”
“I have a weird vision of relationships because my parents have known each other since second grade, and they got married right out of college,” she explained. “I’ve always thought that’s what it’s supposed to be like, and if it’s not, then I don’t want to waste my time on it.”
Dakota continued, “Even when I was 14, I was like, ‘I’m not gonna marry this person. What’s the point of doing it?’ It’s not me being naive. I just know what it’s supposed to be like. And I think until I feel that, I cannot be bothered.”

Later, in 2016, Dakota told Town & Country magazine that she found dates to be “horrific.”
“We have to sit there and ask these questions and pretend to eat a meal, and it just feels so stiff. The way I prefer to meet someone is through a friend,” she said, adding that she can assume the person is “most likely not a freak.”
In 2018, Dakota revealed that she had been thinking about settling down more.
“I can’t wait to be a mom,” she told Vogue Australia. “I can’t wait to get married. Not yet, but those things are very important to me, and I think about them.”
