I will vote “no” Question 1 on Nov. 4.
I am 82 years old and have voted in Maine for over 50 years. I can no longer stand in line on election day. I must vote absentee.
The bill behind Question 1 would abolish ongoing absentee voting for seniors like me. My town office is open just three days per week. This change in the law will eliminate many of the days I can use for going to my town office to vote absentee.
I would not be able to call my town office and request a ballot over the phone. My town would not be allowed to include pre-paid return postage on my absentee ballot if I cannot drive to the town office. I think this bill is intended to keep seniors like me from voting.
It would be difficult for my neighbors who commute to their jobs an hour away to vote. It would destroy the way many of us now vote.
Please vote “no” on Question 1.
