Noah Wyle convinced audiences of his onscreen chops, securing a win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

The actor received the honor for The Pitt during the Sunday, September 14, awards show at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

“Wow. What a dream this has been. Oh, my goodness,” Wyle, who plays Dr. Robby on the HBO Max medical drama, began his acceptance speech. “To my fellow nominees, just having my name included in your company is the honor of a lifetime.”

He continued. “Thank you to everyone at HBO Max and to Warner Brothers Television for allowing me the conditions to exist for lightening to strike twice,” referring to his past success playing Dr. Carter on ER.

Wyle thanked his cast, the crew and everyone who helped make season 1 of The Pitt possible, before giving a special shout-out to his loved ones.

“To my children, to my parents, to my stepparents and to my beautiful wife, Sarah, who owns half of this, not just because it’s California law, but because she’s earned it,” he said with a laugh. “To anyone going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you.”

Wyle beat out Paradise’s Sterling K. Brown, Slow Horses’ Gary Oldman, The Last of Us’ Pedro Pascal and Severance’s Adam Scott to win the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category.

2025 Emmys Winners List

Prior to Sunday’s ceremony, Brown, 49, was the only previous Emmy winner in the running for the award, with three trophies out of his 12 career nominations. He earned Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story in 2016, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for This Is Us in 2017 and Outstanding Narrator for Lincoln: Divided We Stand in 2021. In addition to his Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nod, he was also up for Outstanding Drama Series for his work as an executive producer on Paradise this year.

Wyle, for his part, is a seven-time Emmy nominee. This year, he received a second nod for Outstanding Drama Series for executive producing The Pitt. He was previously nominated five times for ER.

As for Pascal, 50, and Scott, 52, they each have a career total of four Emmy nominations. Pascal was previously up for the same Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for The Last of Us in 2023. Meanwhile, Scott received a second nod this year for Outstanding Drama Series for his role as an executive producer on Severance, and he previously competed for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the show in 2022.

Oldman, 67, is a three-time Emmy nominee, including a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Slow Horses in 2024.

Last year, the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category looked markedly different, with Shōgun’s Hiroyuki Sanada defeating Slow Horses’ Oldman, Hijack’s Idris Elba, Mr. & Mrs. Smith’s Donald Glover, Fallout’s Walton Goggins and The Crown’s Dominic West.
