Colman Domingo clarified his reaction to Jeff Hiller’s victory at the 2025 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 14.

Hiller, 49, won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Somebody Somewhere, fending off competition from Domingo, 55, for his role in The Four Seasons, Shrinking’s Harrison Ford and Michael Urie, The Studio’s Ike Barinholtz, The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Saturday Night Live favorite Bowen Yang.

As Hiller’s name was called out Sunday, Domingo, Urie and Yang appeared surprised before breaking out into applause and cheering for the actor, as pointed out by one viewer on X.

Domingo commented on the post late Sunday night, writing, “Actually, we all are reacting lovingly to our colleague who we know deserves so many flowers. He is a gem. Bravo Jeff!”

Hiller won his first-ever Emmy on Sunday for playing Joel in HBO’s hit comedy Somebody Somewhere.

Collecting the award, the comedian said, “I feel like I’m gonna cry because the past 25 years I’ve been like, ‘World, I wanna be an actor,’ and the world’s like, ‘Maybe computers.’”

Hiller went on to thank his husband, artist Neil Goldberg, and costar Bridget Everett, who plays Somebody Somewhere lead character Sam Miller.

“Thank you to my sweet husband and my family for never laughing at me. And most of all, thank you, Bridget Everett. You’ve changed my life, and you told so many people to believe in themselves, and they do,” he said.

2025 Emmys Winners List

Hiller was among several first-time Emmy winners on Sunday. Others included Adolescence actor Owen Cooper, who became the youngest male actor to win an Emmy at just 15. Severance’s Britt Lower earned her first Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, while costar Tramell Tillman became the first Black actor to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The Pitt’s Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa also won their first Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. The win marked Wyle’s first Emmy after five previous nominations for his role as Dr. John Carter on the classic medical drama ER.

The Studio took home the most awards of the night with 13 prizes, followed by The Penguin, which took home nine awards, and Adolescence and Severance, both of which walked away with eight Emmys apiece.
