Red carpet? Check. Scottish pride? Check. Underwear? Not so much. Brian Cox arrived at the Toronto Film Festival in a kilt, but during a Q&A, things got a little too traditional.
The actor, 79, brought his heritage — but apparently left his modesty back at home — during the highly anticipated premiere of Glenrothan, his directorial debut, on Thursday, September 11.
Audience members reportedly couldn’t help but notice that he had ditched the underwear and was letting his loins roam free during a Q&A that was held in the Roy Thomson Hall.
“Is it that bad?” the Succession star asked, according to The Hollywood Reporter, before coyly inquiring, “Or that good?”
“You have to wear the kilt the proper way. The kilt is designed to make you cool and free. And it’s a f***ing wonderful freedom,” Cox continued after putting his knees together.
In honor of the occasion, the star was clad in a dark charcoal grey tweed jacket worn over a black dress shirt with a bolo tie and a dark vest with silver buttons, paired with a traditional black kilt and a highly decorative fur sporran featuring a prominent silver cantle.

Cox portrays Sandy in Glenrothan, which tells the story of two estranged brothers who reunite in their birthland “following a violent exchange with their father on the day of their mother’s funeral.”
Costars Siobhan Redmond and Alan Cumming were not present at the 2025 TIFF event, but cast members Alexandra Shipp and Shirley Henderson were among those who made an appearance.
In yet another hilarious moment during the event, Cox reportedly called out to Glenrothan producer Neil Zeiger in the audience for persuading him to wear a kilt.

“Whose idea was it to wear these f***ing kilts?” Cox quipped, per THR. “Certainly not my idea. It was the producer’s idea. They always try to f*** you up, at the end of the day.”
“You’re probably wearing underpants,” the actor told Zeiger, 75, who was clad in a tartan kilt and confirmed that Cox was absolutely correct.
