On behalf of the family of Cpl. Oscar Sprague, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Maine, the veterans of Maine, and the veteran from Florida who was in Maine and came to his service.
Also to the Massachusetts State Police, Massport Fire Department and Logan personnel who took time to honor Oscar as he was being transferred from his flight into the care of Bragdon Kelley Funeral Homes. To the New Hampshire State Police for providing safe escort of Oscar through their state.
Thank you to the Maine State Police for their respectful accompaniment of Oscar and his family to Milbridge. Much respect to every fire department from Kennebunk to Milbridge for honoring Oscar’s return after 75 years MIA at every bridge and overpass by standing at attention saluting Oscar with American flags, red, white and blue lights. The lieutenant whose high honor it was to escort Oscar from Hawaii to Milbridge was visibly moved by the outpouring of support he saw from the people of Maine.
And thanks also to the Department of Defense POW MIA Agency for relentlessly working to identify and repatriate Oscar to his family. To the media outlets who worked so hard to tell this hero’s story. And to Bragdon Kelley for such a dignified and honorable service. Thank you all!
