STONINGTON — Opera House Arts is pleased to announce its second Film Club series! Film Club is a membership-based program that offers space for people to gather and watch classic films together on the Stonington Opera House big screen.
For the fall of 2025, the staff selected 30 films made between 1934 and 1994 that are acknowledged by the American Film Institute for the ways in which they demonstrate excellence in the art form.
Members can vote on their top 10 film choices. Voting will take place through Sept. 26. The six films with the most votes will be announced on Sept. 29. Membership will include a guest pass to one film.
Screenings will be on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.: Oct. 14, 21 and 28 and Nov. 4, 11 and 18. The lobby and concession stand will open an hour before each screening and stay open for an hour after for gathering and discussion.
On Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. members of Film Club are invited to come to the lobby of the Opera House for refreshments and discussion prior to the 6 p.m. film-themed Trivia Night. Each member of the Film Club will get an extra point for their trivia team!
Membership is $30 for a six film series and can be purchased at any time, but must be purchased before Sept. 26 to take part in the voting process. For more information or to purchase a membership visit operahouseart.org or call 207-367-2788.
The Stonington Opera House is a historic center of culture and entertainment, a performance space and a civic gathering place. Our work is rooted in the belief that access to and participation in the arts transforms lives.
The Stonington Opera House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and in 1999, it was rescued by the founders of Opera House Arts, a 501(c)3, that was established specifically to restore this historic building to its original purpose.
A cornerstone of a year-round, vibrant Main Street located at the top of the busiest commercial fishing pier in Maine, the Stonington Opera House is an economic engine for the creative economy of Deer Isle.
