The state’s takeover of newborn services is rattling nurses in Maine’s poorest county. Changes in Bangor have gotten more attention, but nurses farther east are worried about ending relationships they’ve built with families.

Bangor’s City Council chair resigned citing “personal attacks.” Cara Pelletier had not planned to run for reelection but bowed out a few months before the end of her three-year term.

Washington County’s treasurer has stepped down in the middle of a budget crisis. The county is asking voters to approve an $11 million bond to cover costs from years of budget mismanagement. 

Howland is suing a man because he didn’t build a grocery store. Nearly five years after selling land to the developer for $1, the town wants it back.

The Ellsworth City Council is likely to get three new members this fall. Seven people, none of them incumbents, filed candidacy papers by Monday’s deadline.
