The Summer I Turned Pretty creator Jenny Han got in on the fun by getting Jeremiah’s legendary dark chocolate mirror glaze cake for her birthday.
Han, 45, took to Instagram earlier this month to share highlights from her festivities, which included a party attended by her celebrity friends, including Lauren Graham, Ali Wong and Bill Hader. While Us certainly noticed couple Wong and Hader in the snaps, it was the cake choice that caught social media users’ attention since the author appeared to be enjoying a dark chocolate cake with a raspberry coulis filling and a mirror glaze on top.
Those watching season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty know that exact cake was what Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) requested for his and Belly’s (Lola Tung) wedding before she realized it was out of their price range. With help from Jeremiah’s brother, Conrad (Chris Briney), who is also Belly’s ex-boyfriend, they came up with a new plan involving a single-tiered milk chocolate cake with raspberry coulis.
“Belly, cacao is the bean. It’s what the chocolate is made of. Look, the whole flavor profile depends on the bitterness of the dark chocolate and the sweet tartness of the raspberry,” Jeremiah responded in an August episode, which became a viral moment. “The cake is my one thing, and you said each of us get one thing.”

Belly asked that Jeremiah be “realistic,” to which he replied, “Well, then I’ll put it on a card and pay it off later.”
In the end, neither of them needed to worry about the $750 charge because Belly and Jeremiah didn’t go through with their wedding. In an episode from last month, Jeremiah called off the nuptials after realizing Belly still had feelings for Conrad.
As the show has been more popular than ever (with Jeremiah seemingly not winning over as many fans in the love triangle), Casalegno recently broke his silence on the overwhelming backlash against Jeremiah.
“They tend to dislike him, yes. I don’t check Instagram anymore, so I really haven’t seen that much hate,” Casalegno, 26, told The New York Times in August. “The only thing that I see is my sister sending me the memes that are really funny. I think it’s important to also understand and realize that this is a fictional story — and it’s also not me.”

He added: “I don’t think there’s a single human being in the world who can carry the emotional negativity to the degree that stuff like this happens.”
Han, for her part, has also had to speak out after receiving criticism about the structure of the show’s third and final season. In response to a September comment on TikTok claiming Han “gave us NOTHING,” the show creator replied, “I gave you the last 4 years of my life. I have given all I have to give, enjoy!”
