A Mount Desert man will spend the next five years in prison for burning down a couple’s home last year.
Glenn P. Stanley, 59, pleaded guilty to arson, attempted arson and criminal mischief, according to the Ellsworth American.
Justice Harold Stewart on Aug. 28 sentenced Stanley to 15 years in prison with all but five suspended, four years of probation and to pay $7,200 in restitution to the victims, the American reported.
Stanley allegedly set fire to two properties off Stanley Mountain Road, a dead-end road off Route 198, in Mount Desert on the afternoon of April 22, 2024.
The fire destroyed one home, while the second was extensively damaged.
The couple who rented the destroyed home had spent several years living at the property year-round and lost many possessions in the blaze.
Prosecutors pushed for a stiffer sentence, saying Stanley brought a rifle with him. He was caught on camera setting one fire, attempting to start another and then blowing kisses into the camera, according to the American.
Under his probation, Stanley will be barred from contacting the tenants and property owner.
Stanley was not yet listed as incarcerated with the Maine prison system on Thursday morning.
