Young Sheldon alum Raegan Revord has come out as nonbinary.
Revord, 17, confirmed their gender identity during an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Friday, August 29.
“It’s so cool because growing up, whenever I would see a celebrity or whoever come out as nonbinary or queer or anything, I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is so cool, I see myself in you,’” Revord, who uses they/them pronouns, said. “And now it’s so crazy to have that experience where I’m now that person and there might be a kid somewhere who’s like, ‘Oh my God, I see myself in you.’ And that’s such an insane thing ‘cause I was in that kid’s shoes at some point in my life.”
The confirmation comes months after fans noticed in January that Revord had changed their preferred pronouns on social media.

Revord is most known for their role as Missy Cooper on Young Sheldon. Since the show wrapped in May 2024, Revord published their debut novel, a YA rom-com called Rules for Fake Girlfriends, on Tuesday, September 2. The book follows Avery Blackwell, who travels to her late mother’s alma mater in Brighton, England, to solve a scavenger hunt that her mother left for her. She meets a local girl named Charlie, who agrees to help Avery with the hunt — but only if Avery enters a fake relationship with her so that Charlie can avoid her ex.
“I’ve always wanted to write something set in England. I love the place, and there are so many amazing rom coms that are set in England — Love Actually, Notting Hill, The Holiday — and I always loved the aesthetic they have,” Revord told Woman’s World.
They continued, “I’ve had ideas for Avery for a while, but never really a plot or a backstory. The main incident is kind of what started this whole journey, and it was because I had a friend tell me that she had a potentially serious health issue, and I started thinking about how that could affect other relationships. That kind of led to what Avery and her mom’s relationship became.”
Revord also shared what they hope readers will take away from the book.

“I think there’s a few things. There’s obviously the romance plot, but then there’s also just Avery’s character arc. At the very beginning of the book, she’s not the most confident person. She’s never dated anyone before, she’s unsure about what career path she wants to follow and she’s not sure if moving to England is the right move,” they explained. “There’s a lot of uncertainty. And then, by the end of the book, she’s very confident, she knows what she wants to do and she trusts in herself. The message there is that you have to give things time.”
Revord added, “When a lot of people feel stuck or unsure, they try to rush it and make that answer come immediately. But Avery just went with the flow, which is very difficult to do. I think just giving it time and just trusting that the answer will come to you, and that you can’t rush it, is very important. And she learns that over the course of the book.”
