LINCOLN — September is National Recovery Month and Save A Life Recovery Resource Center is inviting the community to come together for a Recovery Block Party on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. at 19 VFW St. This free, family-friendly event will celebrate the power of recovery, reduce stigma and highlight local resources that support individuals and families impacted by substance use and mental health challenges.
A celebration of hope and healing
The Recovery Block Party will feature a wide variety of activities and entertainment designed to engage all ages. Guests will enjoy live music by Brady’s Grown Up Time, delicious BBQ, and a visit from Darling’s Ice Cream for a Cause Truck, which donates proceeds to local nonprofits.
Children and families can participate in games, face painting, rock painting and friendship bracelet making, while those looking for creative expression can enjoy haikus on demand. Special guests Miss Maine and Miss Teen Maine will also be present to greet attendees and show their support.
Building community through partnership
The Block Party also provides an opportunity for individuals to connect with local recovery and community resources. Organizations such as Options Save Lives, Set Free Ministries, Partners for Peace, Eastern Maine Development Corporation, Better Life Partners, True Connections Behavioral Health, the Lincoln Memorial Library, Recovery Action Project and more will be on site to share information, offer services and show their commitment to a healthier community.
Why this event matters
According to a Save A Life Recovery Resource Center teen volunteer, the event is about more than just fun and food. “Recovery is about community,” young Lily said. “When people know they are seen and valued, they are more likely to feel better. This event is about reminding everyone that healing is possible and Save A Life isn’t scary. I’m really proud to volunteer with Save A Life and I’ve been happy to help behind the scenes planning this event.”
National Recovery Month, established in 1989, promotes and supports evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, the recovery community, and the service providers who make recovery possible. Save A Life Recovery Resource Center is proud to continue this tradition locally by creating a safe and welcoming space for individuals and families.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 207-403-9100.
