At least one person is dead after a pontoon boat flipped over Saturday afternoon on Flagstaff Lake in the western Maine town of Eustis.
The incident was reported at 1:20 p.m. in the area of the Cathedral Pines Campground beach near State Route 27, prompting a massive emergency response. The local fire department said in a Facebook post it was on the scene within two minutes. People rushed from shore to assist, according to WMTW.
Eustis Fire Chief Sprague Wise told the station there were seven people on the boat when it flipped over and all were pulled from the water. Initial reports indicated that three victims were getting CPR at the scene.
The Maine Warden Service is investigating the incident. Spokesperson Mark Latti said it was a fatal crash but did not say how many were killed. Wardens were still on the scene as of 7 p.m. Saturday.
