A person of interest in the death of a Portland man in Massachusetts reportedly asked neighbors to help move a “hockey mannequin” wrapped in blankets into the back seat of a Honda Civic.
Declan Perry, 27, of Portland was wrapped in blankets and duct tape and left in the back seat of a black 2019 Honda Civic outside the South Shore Hospital emergency department in Weymouth, where staff found him about 2:07 p.m. Saturday, according to the Plymouth County district attorney’s office.
Perry was unresponsive and declared dead at 2:15 p.m., the district attorney said Monday.
Boston 25 reported that there was a single bullethole in the Honda’s windshield. The vehicle had Maine plates.
Following initial reports, residents of a condominium complex on Driftway in Scituate told police they saw a man loading heavy blankets in the back of a Honda Civic outside their neighbor’s home earlier on Saturday, according to the district attorney.
Now Boston 25 reports, citing court documents, that a witness told investigators that the person of interest in Perry’s death asked the neighbor and a woman to help load a hockey goalie mannequin — “which was usually filled with water,” he told them — into the back seat of a Honda Civic.
When the neighbor saw reports about Perry’s death and pictures of the Honda Civic outside South Shore Hospital, they reported the encounter to police, according to Boston 25.
Police have seized a number of items from the residence in Scituate, including a belt, scissors, a wooden door, sandals, two web cameras, mail and a medical document, Boston 25 reported Thursday.
Perry and the person of interest knew each other, according to the district attorney.
Perry was the head chef at The Grill Room & Bar in Portland, the Portland Press Herald reported.
The Massachusetts medical examiner’s office will determine Perry’s cause and manner of death. Those results are still pending.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
