An 8-year-old girl died Wednesday after an ambulance hit her in Van Buren.
The girl was crossing Main Street about 4:01 p.m. when she was hit by a Van Buren Ambulance Service ambulance, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
She suffered life-threatening injuries, and while ambulance personnel rendered aid to her, the child succumbed to her injuries, Moss said Thursday morning.
The ambulance wasn’t responding to an emergency at the time of the crash.
The child lived near where the crash happened.
The crash remains under investigation.
