Black cab rapist John Worboys is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault dating back to the 1990s.

The 68-year-old, now known as John Radford, was jailed indefinitely for public protection in 2009, with a minimum term of eight years, after being found guilty of 19 sexual offences against 12 women committed between 2006 and 2008.

In December 2019, he received a life sentence at the Old Bailey, with a minimum term of six years, after admitting to spiking the drinks of four women.

Police are now investigating an allegation of rape in Blackpool dating back more than 25 years, during a time when Worboys was working as a stripper.

Lancashire Police said: “We received a report of rape which was reported to have happened in the late 1990s in Blackpool.

“An investigation was launched, and our enquiries are ongoing.

“No one has been arrested at this stage.”

Worboys, from Enfield, north London, gained notoriety as the black cab rapist after attacking victims in his Hackney taxi.

Police previously said they believe the former male stripper committed offences against over 100 women before he was caught.
