The runway at the Bangor International Airport reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday after being closed for several hours following a plane crash that killed one person.
Airport spokesperson Aimee Thibodeau said it’s standard procedure for runways to close after a crash.
Some flights to Bangor were en route when the crash happened, according to flight tracking. Those were rerouted to Portland, including an American Airlines flight from Chicago and another from Charlotte, North Carolina.
A single-engine Cessna crashed around 1:20 p.m. outside the fence around the airport’s runway. One person died, Bangor Fire Chief Geoffrey Low said.
