Police on Friday released the name of a man killed when his car crashed into a tractor trailer on Wednesday morning in the town of Newburgh.
Peter Williams, 66, of Searsmont, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and his dog died on the way to a veterinarian, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency dispatchers received a report at about 11:55 a.m. of a serious crash near the Route 202 intersection.
When Penobscot County deputies arrived they found a 2014 Porsche sedan had crashed head-on with a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer.
Police confirmed on Friday based on a video of the crash from one of the vehicles that the Porsche was traveling west when it crossed the center line on a curve and hit the tractor trailer that was loaded with junk metal. The tractor trailer went off the road and hit a metal garage, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Aaron Flagg, 43, of Albion, was assessed for injuries, but not brought to a hospital.
