FRENCHVILLE, Maine — A Fort Kent man was brought by helicopter to Bangor after being struck by a vehicle on Route 1 in Frenchville Thursday morning, according to Aroostook County Sheriff Peter Johnson.

The incident occurred when Thomas Nadeau, 67, of Madawaska was traveling in a 2023 GMC Canyon that went off the road and rolled over. Nadeau was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

During this incident, Cindy Nadeau, 43, of Frenchville stopped to help Thomas Nadeau. After she exited her vehicle, a 2022 Toyota Rav4, it rolled forward and struck Tyler St. Peter, 27, of Fort Kent. Police did not immediately say when St. Peter entered the scene.

St. Peter was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center and later flown by LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The incident closed a portion of Route 1 in Frenchville for a part of Thursday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police announced roughly two hours later that the road had reopened.

The incident occurred in the area of 225 Route 1, and officials were rerouting traffic onto Star Barn Road.

The sheriff’s office responded and was assisted by the Frenchville Fire Department and Madawaska Ambulance Service.

The crash is currently under investigation.
