A man and a dog are dead after a collision Wednesday morning on Route 69 in the Penobscot County town of Newburgh.
Emergency dispatchers received a report at about 11:55 a.m. of a serious crash near the Route 202 intersection.
When Penobscot County deputies arrived they found a 2014 Porsche sedan had crashed head-on with a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer.
Police believe the Porsche was traveling west when it crossed the center line on a curve and hit the tractor trailer, which was loaded with junk metal. The tractor trailer went off the road and hit a metal garage, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The male driver of the Porsche, who police have not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. A dog that was in the car died while being transported to a local veterinarian. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, according to the sheriff’s office.
The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
