I’m Still Recovering From Netflix’s New Action Thriller — Here’s Why You Should Watch It Now

Netflix has been the streaming home for The Walking Dead for several years now, but that’s never stopped the streamer from adding other zombie-related titles.

In July, Netflix debuted Ziam, a Thai horror movie that mashes up martial arts and zombies for some fast-paced action and fighting sequences.

Unsurprisingly, that combination turned out to be very popular, making Ziam one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies in July.

If you haven’t seen it already, Watch With Us is sharing the reasons why you should catch Ziam on Netflix.

3 Must-Watch Horror Movies You Need to Stream in July 2025

Prin Suparat Is a Very Credible Action Hero

Ziam‘s strong point isn’t its script, which doesn’t take much time to develop its characters beyond the roles they need to serve in the story. But the film’s leading man, Prin Suparat, does most of his talking with his hands and feet. Suparat’s Muay Thai skills are the movie’s biggest attraction beyond the zombies themselves.

Suparat’s Singh isn’t a very talkative guy, and he’s an action hero in the Jason Statham mold. Almost nothing phases Singh and there’s rarely anything he can’t handle without punching or kicking it. Say what you will about the rest of the film, but it’s fun watching Singh kick zombie butt.

The Zombie Effects Are Impressive

Some questionable CGI effects in Ziam underscore the low budget with which it was made. But the zombies themselves look really good. Relying on old-school practical makeup effects gave this film some extra zombie cred. Admittedly, it’s also got some fun and campy touches, including the hospital patients who are turned despite being in a wheelchair or in traction.

5 Great Horror Movies That Are Actually Funny

It wouldn’t have been much of a fight if these zombies were slow and barely functioned. Instead, these undead creatures more closely resemble the infected from 28 Days Later or its sequel, 28 Weeks Later. However, the source of the zombie plague leads to one of Ziam‘s more divisive twists,  which we won’t entirely spoil. It’s enough to say that the zombies are still mutating until late in the film.

The Action Choreography Is Exciting to Watch

Ziam didn’t invent the martial arts/zombie flick hybrid, but it feels refreshing to see this kind of action in a genre that’s overly reliant on gunplay. By the rules governing the majority of zombie films, it would be a bad idea to get as close to the creatures as Singh does. All of those punches and kicks surely exposed him to the virus. Regardless, the movie gleefully overlooks anything resembling logic about the infection in favor of letting the fists fly.

This is an over-the-top movie in all of the best ways. Ziam may lack the polish of a big-budget film, but it’s got enough going for it to be entertaining to fans of the genre.

Ziam is streaming on Netflix.
