For more than 10 years, the Brewer Athletic Hall of Fame has honored athletes, coaches, administrators and other team contributors at Brewer High School. And the list of impressive inductees is about to get bigger.

Five more players, one coach and two standout teams will be etched into Brewer athletics history in September as the hall of fame’s Class of 2025. The new inductees will be honored  during a Sept. 13 ceremony at the Brewer Community School Performing Arts Center.

This year’s group of honorees includes baseball player Joel Barrett, football players Steve Campbell and Ric Franks, three-sport athlete Katherine Gibbs Heselton, four-sport athlete Don McGlauflin, soccer coach Mike Jeffrey and the 1969 and 1970 Brewer baseball teams.

Barrett graduated from Brewer in 2002 and was a two-time Penobscot Valley Conference player of the year, according to a press release from the Brewer athletic department. He went on to play baseball at the University of Maine, where he led the team in home runs and hits during his senior season.

Campbell, a member of the class of 1971, led the 1970 state championship football team in tackles as a linebacker and earned a place on the Maine All-State First Team, according to the press release. He later played football at Dartmouth College.

Ric Franks played defensive end, linebacker and center on Brewer’s 1968 state championship football team. The member of the class of 1969 earned All-State honors and went on to play at Bates College.

Gibbs Heselton excelled at field hockey, basketball and softball as a member of the class of 1981. She notched more than 100 career saves in field hockey, anchored the basketball team’s defense and was a four-year starting softball pitcher, according to the athletic department.

Jeffrey founded both the Brewer boys and girls soccer programs in 1984. He coached the boys team for 12 years and was the soccer coach of the year in eastern Maine in 1991. He continues to serve as president of the Maine Soccer Coaches’ Association, a position he’s held since 1988.

Don McGlauflin, a member of the class of 1971, was a four-sport athlete who quarterbacked the 1970 championship football team, earned All-Tournament honors on the basketball team, won a conference baseball championship as a member of the 1969 squad, and still ranks high in Brewer’s all-time track records as a javelin thrower. He went on to play football in college at the University of Connecticut.

The 1969 and 1970 Brewer baseball teams won back-to-back conference championships under  head coach Ken Perrone and assistant coach Jim White, according to the athletic department.

The induction celebration will begin with a social hour and refreshments at 2-3 p.m. on Sept. 13. Attendees can register online for $16.50 via the Brewer athletic department, which recommends pre-registration.
