A man accused of killing a Maine woman in Waldoboro earlier this month has a criminal history dating back decades.
Police found the body of 53-year-old Levern Kelley at her home on Gethner Road in Waldoboro after receiving a 911 call for a wellness check on Aug. 10.
After Kelley’s murder, 49-year-old James Clark of Damariscotta fled from Maine to Volusia County, Florida, according to police.
An arrest warrant for Clark was issued, charging him with Kelley’s murder. Clark was arrested at the Red Carpet Inn in South Daytona, Florida, on Friday. Clark will be extradited to Maine.
Kelley’s cause of death has not yet been released.
Clark has been in and out of prison several times. He’s also been convicted of assault multiple times.
His most recent conviction was for operating under the influence and violating his conditions of release in July when he was sentenced to a combined seven months in prison.
It appears Clark never started that sentence before his arrest last week.
