Jay Cutler isn’t thrilled with his ex-wife Kristin Cavallari’s recent comments regarding her finances.
“Let’s think about this logically. ‘Not a penny,’ OK. Married for, I don’t know, seven years or so, three kids,” Cutler, 42, said during a recent episode of his “Take It Outside” podcast. “You can go and see how much I made in the NFL. It’s online. You can see the contract from year to year and the total amount at the end of 12 years. So, you go to divorce and each side gets a lawyer and then you go to court and there’s a judge.”
Cutler said that there’s “not a judge in the state of Tennessee” that would have signed an agreement stating that Cutler would “keep every single dollar” he made throughout their marriage.
Cutler — who was once the highest paid quarterback in the NFL when he signed a seven-year, $126 million contract with the Chicago Bears— and Cavallari, 38, announced their split in 2020 and their divorce was finalized two years later. They share three kids, Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9. The financial details of their divorce paperwork has not been made public.

Cutler was seemingly reacting to comments Cavallari made during a June episode of her podcast when addressing the funding of her lifestyle brand, Uncommon James. Cavallari stated that she is “100 percent” the company’s owner, “never” took outside funding and Cutler did not have anything to do with its creation. (Cavallari claimed that Uncommon James makes “close to $50 million a year” in revenue.)
“I have never gotten a penny from my ex-husband,” she added. “I didn’t get any money from our divorce, so let’s just clear that up. Thank you.”
Cutler subtly addressed Uncommon James during his rant during the August 15 podcast episode, claiming it was a “marital asset” because Cavallari funded the company during their marriage. He also called Cavallari’s comments “irresponsible” and noted that the Laguna Beach alum “didn’t get a penny,” rather got “a lot of bills” during the divorce.
“I think it’s reckless. I think it’s borderline slander to insinuate that there was zero dollars split during the marriage that each side got,” he added. “It’s insanity. It’s completely false, completely untrue. It is, it just is. I’ve got a divorce decree. I’ve got something that’s signed by the judge — it’s, like, 67 pages — it says the number breakdown.”

While Cutler didn’t want to “get into” the exact numbers, he guaranteed listeners that it was “definitely not zero.” He confirmed that it was “without a doubt” enough for her to live comfortably on.
Cutler concluded the conversation saying that the entire situation was “completely unnecessary” — especially that he had to address it.
“It gets to a point where it’s just untrue,” he added. “Very untrue.”
