A 49-year-old Damariscotta man was arrested Friday and charged with murder in connection with the death last week of a Waldoboro woman.
Detectives from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central obtained an arrest warrant for James Clark, charging him with murder, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The warrant was issued after several days of investigation into the death of Levern Kelley, 53, of Waldoboro.
Clark fled Maine and was located with the assistance of the Maine Information and Analysis Center in Maine and Volusia County, Florida.
Major Crimes Unit detectives coordinated with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, who arrested James at the Red Carpet Inn in the South Daytona area at 6:40 p.m. Friday.
Clark was arrested without incident and is awaiting extradition to Maine. He is being held at the Volusia County Jail in Daytona Beach. Updates will be provided when appropriate, state police said.
Kelly’s body was discovered after a person called the Waldoboro Police Department on the morning of August 9 to check on the woman’s well-being.
