A Unity man fell almost 30 feet near Screw Auger Falls in Grafton Township.
Brexton Getchell, 21, was standing on a ledge about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when he fell 25 to 30 feet into the water below, according to Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Rescuers had to carry the seriously injured Getchell 300 feet downstream through the gorge in order to reach a waiting LifeFlight helicopter, Latti said Wednesday night. Once out of the gorge, Getchell was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
