It’s hard to make a comedy hit nowadays — so often they get very short theatrical releases or go straight to streamers.

If you’re craving a laugh, sometimes it’s good to have someone else do the research and plumb the depths of comedy from today and yesteryear.

That’s why Watch With Us is bringing you recommendations on the best underrated comedies from streaming services like Hulu and Peacock.

Check out our list of hilarious, underrated comedy movies you should watch in August 2025.

‘Joy Ride’ (2023)

Two Chinese American best friends, Audrey and Lolo (Ashley Park and Sherry Cola), embark on a trip to China to find Audrey’s birth parents. (Audrey was adopted by a white family from China.) Along the way, they join up with Audrey’s college roommate Kat (Stephanie Hsu), now a Chinese soap opera star, and Lolo’s eccentric cousin Deadeye (Sabrina Wu).

Things quickly go off the rails when their money and passports are stolen, and the girls are stranded in rural China. Hilarious and heartfelt, Joy Ride is surprisingly moving at times and delightfully raunchy at others — not surprising, since it was produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Watch Joy Ride on Peacock.

‘Date Night’ (2010)

Tina Fey and Steve Carell play a couple whose regular date night dynamic has gotten a bit stale. In an effort to shake things up, they take another couple’s dinner reservation at a fancy restaurant. They wind up in a case of mistaken identity that leads to violent shootouts, car chases — and just maybe, a reignited spark.

This relatable comedy about the realities of marriage shows off Fey and Carell’s talents throughout, but our favorite scene might actually be the bloopers during the end credits. Hearing the two talented performers ad lib alternate jokes for the same thing will make your jaw drop with delighted amazement.

Watch Date Night on Hulu.

‘Dude, Where’s My Car?’ (2000)

Ok, so we ordered a completely ridiculous stoner comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott. And then …??

Dude, Where’s My Car? is a fever dream of a movie about two slackers who have the wildest night of their lives — but wake up and find they can’t remember any of it, or where they parked their car. That’s bad enough, but apparently during the night’s adventures, they ran afoul of two groups of aliens searching for the continuum transfunctioner — “a mysterious and powerful device whose mystery is only exceeded by its power.”

As they try to retrace their steps, they encounter a psychotic ostrich farmer, a lifetime supply of pudding and the above-referenced Chinese food drive-through operator. Don’t expect sophistication or nuance, here; instead, expect a lot of guilty pleasure laughs.

Watch Dude, Where’s My Car? on Hulu.
