Two local school supply drives will help hundreds of children start the school year with confidence thanks to community generosity. Penquis, in partnership with Heart of Maine United Way and Save A Life, are once again hosting their annual Fill the Bus and Fill the Van events to raise backpacks and school supplies for school-age children through the We’ve Got Your Back program.
• Fill the Bus will take place on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Walmart, 900 Stillwater Avenue Bangor, in partnership with Heart of Maine United Way.
• Fill the Van will follow on Friday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Walmart. 250 West Broadway Lincoln.
All proceeds benefit We’ve Got Your Back, a partnership between Penquis and Blueberry Broadcasting, proudly sponsored by Katahdin Trust and Bangor International Airport. The campaign supports more than 1,200 children in Penobscot, Piscataquis and Knox counties each year, providing high-quality backpacks and essential school supplies to help students start strong.
With more than 200 children still on the waitlist, donations are greatly needed.
“A backpack with supplies may seem small, but it makes a big difference in how a child walks into school,” said Renae Muscatell, community relations manager at Penquis. “We’re incredibly grateful to our partners, sponsors and everyone who stops by to give. Together, we’re helping students show up ready and proud.”
