Ozzy Osbourne’s cause of death has officially been revealed.

The singer died from cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease, according to a death certificate obtained by U.K.’s The Sun on Tuesday, August 5.

On Tuesday, July 22, Osbourne’s family confirmed in a statement to Us Weekly that the Black Sabbath frontsman had died at the age of 76.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” they shared. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time”

Osbourne’s death comes over five years after he announced he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in February 2019.

“It’s been terribly challenging for us all,” the singer told Robin Roberts on Good Morning America in January 2020. “I did my last show New Year’s Eve at The Forum. Then I had a bad fall. I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves.”

Following his surgery, Osbourne was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder, which has no cure.

“It’s PRKN 2,” Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, said at the time. “There’s so many different types of Parkinson’s. It’s not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. And it’s like you have a good day, a good day, and then a really bad day.”

In July 2025, Ozzy performed with his Black Sabbath bandmates one final time at a “Back to Beginning” concert in Birmingham, England. The concert marked Osbourne’s official retirement.

“It’s my final encore; it’s my chance to say thank you to my fans for always supporting me and being there for me,” Ozzy said in an interview with RadioX ahead of his performance. “I hope they feel appreciated for how much they mean to me. … It’s a goodbye as far as my live performances go, and what a way to go out.”

The concert raised more than $190 million for various charities, making it the highest-grossing charity concert of all time.

Ozzy, born in Warwickshire, England, in December 1948, was a founding member of the English rock band Black Sabbath alongside guitarist Tommy Iommi, drummer Bill Ward and bassist Geezer Butler. The group’s first three albums — Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971) — were extremely successful and have been instrumental in the development of heavy metal music.

Although Ozzy was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his alcohol and drug problems, he continued to reunite with his former bandmates for several occasions, including a 2017 and 2025 performance. Ozzy also had a successful solo career with 1980’s Blizzard of Oz and 13 more studio albums.

Aside from his musical career, Ozzy made headlines for his family life as well, especially when he appeared on the MTV reality series The Osbournes alongside Sharon and their two kids Kelly Osbourne and Jack Osbourne. (Ozzy and Sharon, who tied the knot 1982, also share daughter Aimee Osbourne. In addition to his three kids with Sharon, Ozzy shares Louis and Jessica with ex-wife Thelma Riley.)

Ozzy is survived by his wife and his five children.
