Ellsworth is changing the hours of its City Hall to a schedule that has two additional hours and should be easier to remember.
Starting Monday, Aug. 11, the building will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The new schedule eliminates Friday hours but increases the total open time to 44 hours per week, from 42.
The change came about through contract negotiations with the Clerk’s Union and is intended to make the hours of operation more consistent with time before and after normal working hours, according to the city. It is also expected to save the city a modest amount of money on building operations without increasing staffing costs.
“These hours are a direct response to what we’ve been hearing in the community,” City Manager Charlie Pearce said. “Whether it’s paying taxes, registering a dog or vehicle, renewing a business license, or handling a utility issue, working families in Ellsworth will now have earlier, later, and more consistent access to City Hall services.”
Residents can also use digital services at ellsworthmaine.gov/online-services, and report problems 24/7 through the city’s new Fix-It ticket call-in system, 207-669-6640, option 1.
The new hours apply only to City Hall. Public safety, library, highway department, water and wastewater, and solid waste collection will continue on their current schedules.
