Why Do ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Fans Think [Spoiler] Is Pregnant?

The Summer I Turned Pretty fans are convinced that one of the main characters is secretly pregnant ahead of the series finale.

While most viewers are tuning in every Wednesday to see whether Belly (Lola Tung) is any closer to choosing between brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), others were paying more attention to characters such as Taylor (Rain Spencer), who also has ongoing issues in her life.

Taylor started season 3, which premiered in July, concerned about her romantic life after cheating on her current boyfriend with her ex Steven (Sean Kaufman) — who also happens to be Belly’s brother. Steven wanted them to get back together but instead they got in a fight that led to him getting into a car crash and subsequently walking back his declaration of love.

This didn’t stop Taylor and Steven from staying in contact, especially once he figured out hermother’s salon was in deep financial trouble. A scene from the Wednesday, July 30, episode of the hit Prime Video series showed Taylor telling her mother that she was no longer going to intern in New York City as a way to save money and get her mom’s business out of debt.

Some fans, however, thought there was more to the scene than a sweet mother-daughter conversation.

“THEORY: Taylor is pregnant,” read the caption on a TikTok shared after Wednesday’s episode. “1st being moody and hungry at the coffee shop. The weird look after her mom said, ‘But I’m the mom.’ The showing of her stomach. The IMMEDIATE subject change. The nervous sniffing.”

There were comments showing support for the theory, with one social media user writing, “YES AND IT’S STEVEN AND TAYLOR’S WEDDING IN THE TRAILER.” Meanwhile, another viewer suggested that this “is the plot twist everyone’s been talking abt” leading up to the series finale.

Others pointed out that Taylor “didn’t wanna get cocktails after dress shopping” although she was seen drinking alcohol in other scenes in season 3 so far. There were some responses that didn’t think the scene was hinting at anything more.

“Orrrr… hear me out? she’s just tired of parenting her mom, bc her mom acts like a child,” read a comment, while someone else added, “I think it just sucks to be her age and having to parent her parent.”

Before The Summer I Turned Pretty returned for its third and final season, creator Jenny Han hinted that the show wasn’t going to stick exactly to the events from her book series. That has caused viewers to worry about possible plot twists — and the cast has leaned into the suspense.

“I will say Jenny has a lot of surprises. Some of the other actors maybe might not have [their arcs] as mapped out as you think,” Kaufman, 25, exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “You saw in seasons 1 and 2, so many scenes were obviously directly from the books, which is amazing. Fans love that and the writers love it, obviously.”

He continued: “But one thing that Jenny and the writers talked about with Rain [Spencer] and I was that whatever they want and whatever they choose, they can write. So I do think that that’s a beautiful part of Steven’s story.”
